Permits in North Hollywood: the City of Los Angeles

North Hollywood is a neighborhood within the City of Los Angeles. That means remodeling permits come from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS), not from a separate city like Burbank or Glendale next door. Work that changes structure, plumbing, electrical or mechanical systems generally needs an LADBS permit and inspections. As your general contractor, we prepare the plans, submit them, respond to plan-check comments, schedule the inspections and close out the permit.

Much of the San Fernando Valley’s housing dates from the decades after World War II. Remodeling a house from that era often means planning for things a newer home wouldn’t have:

• Hidden conditions. Old wiring, galvanized or cast-iron plumbing, and framing changed by past owners. We open up suspect areas early and show you what we find before any extra work.
• Electrical capacity. Modern kitchens, EV chargers and new HVAC often need a service upgrade. We check this during planning.
• Structural changes. Removing a wall or adding a large opening needs engineering. We handle it in design, not halfway through construction.
• Heat. Valley summers are hot, so insulation, windows and ventilation are worth planning into a major remodel.
