Bathroom Remodeling in Santa Monica

What we do in a bathroom remodel

• Showers. We build walk-in showers, curbless or low-curb showers, and tub-to-shower conversions, using a properly sloped pan and a full waterproofing system behind the tile.
• Tubs. We replace and install tubs, including freestanding tubs where the floor framing allows.
• Tile. Floors, walls and niches, with layout planned before installation so cuts land where you won’t notice them.
• Vanities, counters and fixtures. That covers single or double vanities, faucets and toilets, plus mirrors and lighting.
• Ventilation and electrical. We install or upgrade exhaust fans and protected outlets, and add lighting that meets today’s code.
• Accessibility upgrades. On request we add grab-bar blocking, wider openings and zero-threshold entries for aging in place.

Why older Santa Monica bathrooms need a careful plan

Roughly 73% of homes in Santa Monica were built before 1980, according to Census data. Bathrooms in homes of that age often have original drain lines, old shut-off valves, or a subfloor that has taken years of moisture. We open up and inspect early. If the subfloor or framing under an old tub or shower needs repair, we find out before tile goes down, not after. Doing it in that order protects the new bathroom you’re paying for.

5. Final walkthrough. We finish the punch list and close out the permit.

Frequently asked questions

Can you convert my tub into a walk-in shower?

Yes, this is one of the most common requests we get. We remove the tub, check and repair the subfloor and framing, build a sloped and waterproofed shower pan, and tile the space. Glass doors or a fixed panel finish the shower.

Will I need a permit?

You’ll need a permit for most bathroom remodels that move or replace plumbing, add circuits or fans, or change framing. In Santa Monica that permit comes from the City of Santa Monica. We take care of the paperwork and the inspections.

Can I use my other bathroom during the remodel?

Usually, yes. In most homes we can isolate the bathroom we’re working on, so water stays on everywhere else except during short planned shut-offs. We schedule those with you in advance.
